PlayStation 2 Laser Identification

Some of the PS2 consoles use one or more different laser types and because of this it is sometimes hard to purchase the right laser for your PlayStation 2 console, this guide is to help you get the right laser.

Simply identify your current laser and purchase a replacement.

Not sure how to get access to your laser

KHS-400B

The KHS-400B is most commonly found in version 1 - 4 consoles, it can be identified by the sticker on the laser chassis.

KHS-400C

The KHS-400C is most commonly found in version 5 - 9 consoles, it can be identified by the sticker on the laser chassis. It can also be used as a replacement if a khs-400b is not available.

KHS-400R (open face Sanyo HD7)

The KHS-400R is most commonly found in version 5 - 9 consoles, it comes in two variations the only difference is the plastic laser surround, it can be identified by two coloured stickers on the laser underside it may also have HD7 on top or front of the laser. Some people refer to this laser as being the open face Sanyo hd7.

PVR-802W

This laser can be found in the new slimline V12 consoles, pvr is stamped on the black plastic (right hand side). The PVR laser can also be used to replace a KHM-430 laser.

Wide spu-3170

This laser is also found in the slimline PS2 consoles. It can be identified by the copper strip on the left hand side and also the model printed on the barcode on the lasers underside.
